Does a thermometer measures it's own temperature or the temperature of it's surroundings?
ANSWER
It measures its own temperature. The reading changes because heat can flow into or out of a system.Temperature of thermometer is changing not the surroundings. When the thermometer gives a steady reading -- thermometer is in thermal equilibrium with it's surroundings -- They are at the same temperature.
